A pigeonholed brand must fight for itself!
The history of the creation of Cooperative Banks is beautiful, but nowadays it can be an image burden for them. It all started with credit unions, which were created to combat poverty prevailing mainly in rural areas and to free small entrepreneurs of the time from usury. Noble goals, locality and commitment to tradition accompany Cooperative Banks to this day.However, the time has come to take a step in development, to break out of the image framework in which one of the Cooperative Banks is stuck. The basic question arose – how to reach the local community and present yourself so as not to be perceived only as a bank providing services to farmers? How to make the younger generations find out that they can find something for themselves in this local bank? We created an image campaign based on artificial intelligence, which we conducted under the slogan “All for you. All for the young.” The main media of communication were billboards in the city, a movie theatre and commercials on social media. The campaign was the starting point for the promotion of individual inoBank products dedicated to young people – from a prepaid card for children, through the Junior account, to a mortgage. The image campaign and promotional campaigns of individual products were supported by an event in which the local community was invited to participate. We have prepared a family picnic full of attractions, during which we conducted an educational economic game for children from Inowrocław schools. Thanks to these activities, we have built relationships with the local community, while having the opportunity to promote and present the bank’s offer. How to design a visual identification to meet several (theoretically) contradictory conditions at the same time? When rebranding the then Cooperative Bank in Inowrocław, we had to take into account above all the dominance in the customer portfolio – Banki Spółdzielcze has been providing services to farmers for years and are mainly focussed on cooperation with the local customer. Therefore, it was necessary to pay a kind of tribute to those with whom the Bank has almost always cooperated and who co-create its long history. It was also necessary to emphasise the respect for tradition that fits the mission of Cooperative Banks, emphasise Polish origin, strengthen the accent of locality and open the brand to modernity. This is a big challenge, not only for us, but also for the Bank’s Management Board – the big changes introduced after many, many years of rooting in the consciousness of the local community, require courage and unshakeable confidence in the vision of the further functioning of the institution.Conceptual, design and consulting work lasted almost a year. We spent hours creating a new name and logo concept. We focussed on the ear of grain, a sign that is a reference to agriculture, which is still associated with Cooperative Banks like nothing else today. We also emphasised the origin of the Bank, using the outline of the map of Poland, while indicating the locality of this particular institution by using the prefix “ino”. After completing the design work and finalising the brand book, we prepared a rebranding strategy. We have changed everything – from printed materials, promotional materials, graphic binding of documents, online communication, to the sales space at the inoBank headquarters. The result is a customer who is proud of his logo, which is the best showcase for us.
